One of the many things our social media coordinator Carol Lawrence does is author interviews. Carol and her writing partner Stacy recently interviewed energy expert and intuitive author Cyndi Dale.

(Carol and Stacy)
Carol and Stacy: At what age did you know your were intuitive or have your first intuitive experience?
Cyndi: I didn’t have a label for the phenomenon, but I was intuitive as a very small child. I actually remember being in my mother’s womb and watching sound waves pass through her skin and into me. They were huge and colorful and the ones that came from angry comments actually hurt.
Interesting…those spots that were hit by the harsh comments have been the same ones I’ve had afflictions, such as infections, palpitations, and more.
At about three or four, I recall seeing angels. I saw them as a child might: as big with wings. There was one I favored in particular since he would have tea parties with me. Imagine sitting with an angel at a child’s table, his wings dripping onto the floor, his gigantic hands picking up tiny teacups.
But I also saw beings that weren’t so delightful. I could hear and see ghosts, people who continued to stay around though dead. These weren’t particular scary, most of the time, except when I was three and a half, we moved to California and I saw the image of a woman hanging by a noose in our garage. My parents later told me that yes, in fact, someone had hung herself in the garage. I also saw figures I would call demonic—dark, grey, and shadowy, float around the room and sometimes, into and out of my parents when they were in bad moods.
Carol and Stacy: What was your childhood like? Are your parents intuitive?
Cyndi: I had a mixed childhood. I lived a lot in my dreams and intuitions, sometimes forcing my sisters to engage with me in that subtle world. Modeled after some of the ghosts I saw, especially those in long flowing gowns, and what seemed to be their life stories, I’d play dress up, write stories, put on plays.
I also loved nature. To me, it was alive. There was a sense about the grass that was different than the trees; rocks had personalities; stream beds, promises.
I believe that my parents were intuitive but didn’t know or like it. My dad would shake his head if I shared a perception and say, “It’s not safe to think like that.” He was a staunch Lutheran and all Norwegian—as was my mother, and clearly believed anything supernatural was of the Devil. He did tell me, however, that his mother saw ghosts and once refused to ever go into a certain room in a house in Minneapolis because a ghost lived there.
My mother was, to be honest, most likely a paranoid schizophrenic. I could see spirits (not good ones) coming in and out of her. I think she was TOO psychic, which is one of the reasons I’ve focused so intently on learning or developing material that teaches people how to manage the psychic gifts, not be taken advantage of because of them.
Carol and Stacy: Did they support your psychic sensitivity?
Cyndi: As implied, no. There wasn’t an understanding of psychism, nor a place for me to learn about it, except in books, i.e., fairy tales, stories about ghosts and the paranormal. What’s interesting, however, is that the Bible, the sacred book of all Lutherans, became an instruction manual. Even though it clearly states that sorcery is evil, the prophets and teachers throughout the Bible are all clearly psychic! Joseph used a divination cup and interpreted dreams. Elijah and Elisha conducted healings; Elisha raised the dead. The book is chock full of psychic activity and this fact reassured me that these gifts are good, not bad.
Carol and Stacy: How important do you think it is for parents to demonstrate and teach to their children about their chakras and energy bodies?
Cyndi: I think it’s as important as teaching kids about their lungs and their liver, their skin and psychological boundaries. We ARE all these things; we are physical but also subtle beings.
It doesn’t need to be “weird,” either. My youngest has picked it all up hanging around me—actually so did my oldest. I’ve taught them both that everything is energy; that energy can move fast or slow; that you might be feeling your own energy, such as feelings or illnesses, but also someone else’s. I have shared that there are organs, just like our regular physical organs, that attune us to this knowledge. I add also that they can release what is not your own. I make it simple so they don’t feel strange at school, like outsiders.
Carol and Stacy: The Psychic Sensitivity Quiz in the beginning of your book The Intuition Guidebook How to Safely and Wisely Use Your Sixth Sense is pretty thorough. How did you go about putting the quiz together?
Cyndi: I became pretty knowledgeable about the different psychic or intuitive gifts located in the various chakras, not only based on my own experience, but that of clients. I wrote the quiz by first sitting down and figuring out the symptoms or signs of the gifts on a per chakra basis. I selected the activities that were most typical and “mainstream,” if that word applies here! I then had what I needed to form the questions for the quiz.
Carol and Stacy: You speak on and off about Gabe your son and different psychic experiences he’s had. How much have you learned from his experiences as a mother and a psychic?
Cyndi: Oh my, he is such a teacher. From the get-go, he has been the most sensitive and attuned member of this family.
Observing him reiterated my basic theory that we are born psychic; that we take in and emanate information that moves faster than the speed of light. I still remember him at about age three asking if I remembered the time that he was the little brother and I was the baby sister. “It got really heavy, carrying you around,” he added.
I think in many ways he is still like the “big brother” and me the “little sister,” him pointing out what I need to learn and work on in ME because he goes through it! Plus he is kind. Just the other day, I was worrying about something and he said, “How are you really mom. I think something’s bothering you and you are just pretending it’s not because you don’t want to affect me.”
As a mother I’ve learned that raising a psychic child—and they are ALL psychic—is a bit like living on a teeter-totter. We need to shift up and down and yet remain grounded in the center. There are times to teach and encourage them to be intuitive. For instance, Gabe has early morning hockey this summer and as you can imagine, he doesn’t often want to go. So I ask him to listen to what his heart says. “Does your heart so go or not?” He frequently responds, “Well, my head says I don’t want to go, but my heart says to go.” Then he goes.
Once in a while, fortunately for him, his heart says, “Go back to bed.”
The other side of the coin is teaching him when to NOT tap into his psychic—the over-psychic, that is. He was sick for two straight years a while back. In despair at figuring it out, I brought him to an acupuncturist to see if there was an energy or entity interfering with getting a proper diagnosis. Gabe stood outside the doctor’s doorway and screamed, “It won’t let me come in, it won’t let me come in.” So my friend later came to my house and we released this energy from Gabe’s father’s family. Soon after, I finally got a diagnosis—he had nasal polyps growing toward his brain. We removed them surgically and he began to recover.
That experience underscored the importance of BOUNDARIES, especially for kids, as they are so open. I get sad when parents only emphasize their children’s psychic gifts without also emphasizing the need to close them off or know they don’t have to take on what is not their own.
Carol and Stacy: Do you have any animals? Can you tune into them physically?
Cyndi: Oh yes, we consistently have way too many animals. We’re a dog family and at one point, had three. Also a guinea pig and frogs; we’ve had turtles, rabbits, worms, cockroaches, and a cat. (Yes, worms and cockroaches.)
I’m pretty good at tuning into them and they at giving me messages. Right now I have a yellow lab named Lucky and a chocolate lab named Molly, who is a rescue dog and pretty new to my house. A few weeks ago, they were in the back yard and Lucky came in to see me. He cocked his head and whined a certain way.
“Oh my gosh!” I cried. “Molly jumped the fence!”
Yup, after all these years, we had a fence jumper. How fun.
Carol and Stacy: When you are out and about at a grocery store and you can tell the person in front of you is angry, what tools do you use to not be effected by their angry energy? What energetic boundaries do you put in place? ;
Cyndi: I go INTO stores with boundaries in place. Then if I slip, it’s easier to resurrect my boundaries.
I use a technique I developed that I call Spirit-to-Spirit in my work as a consultant but also in my personal life. It’s a very easy process for putting up spiritual boundaries that work and also fluctuate when necessary. I affirm my own Spirit. I affirm the Spirits innate in all people I’ll come across that day. Then I affirm the presence of the Greater Spirit, which I give permission to protect and guard me, but also let me know if there is anything I need to be aware of. This way if I do feel someone’s anger, I won’t trigger on it, but might be alerted to send blessings. Most of the time, however, others’ “stuff” passes around and over me. I might register it, but I don’t become it.
Carol and Stacy: Do you feel food has it’s own vibration and can have an effect on us? For instance if you just pulled a carrot out of the garden and ate it or if you went to the grocery store and bought a carrot and ate it. Do you think vibrationally there’s a difference?
Cyndi: What a GREAT question! YES, different foods definitely carry vibrations and affect us with their qualities. The closer a food has been to the earth, the more it will resonant with our true selves, including our bodies.
I remember years ago reading about a psychic who worked in the slaughterhouse energy. She could read the animals’ reactions to the process. The corporate leaders would design their process around her sense of the animals’ emotions because scared animals flood their systems with adrenaline, which makes the meat taste tough.
Sad story, at one level.
I believe as well that food tastes different if baked or made with love rather than resentment. When growing up, sometimes I would eat my favorite food, spaghetti, and sometimes I simply couldn’t. I think I was attracted to it when my mom was happy about making and serving it and rejected it when she was bitter or mad.
Of course, white foods are pretty dead—and made by fairly deadened people. (I’m Norwegian, and we eat a lot of white food. I’m not including lutefisk and lefse in my criticism.) What can we gain from these foods but more despair? And we’re in quite the crisis in America right now, with so many people obese or overweight and also afflicted with leaky gut, a phenomenon in which you can’t break down the foods you are eating and so the toxins poison the system. Living food keeps us alive; it’s almost that simple.
As well, different foods fortify different chakras, as each food runs on its own band of frequency and therefore correlates to a different chakra. In general you can look at color. Red foods, first chakra; orange foods, second chakra; yellow foods, third chakra, and so on. If we need more power and strength, the task of the first chakra, we might want to eat more red foods that day. Dealing with emotions, the subject of the second chakra, which is orange? Eat an orange or a sweet potato! There are days that I eat only greens, the heart center. I then think, “I must be dealing with relationship issues today.”
Carol and Stacy: There are multiple varieties of psychics. Medical intuitives, clairvoyants, clairaudiants, etc. Can you speak about the type of psychic gifts you work with?
Cyndi: There certainly are and it can get confusing. Basically, everyone is psychic, but some of us are in the business of applying our intuitive or mindfully managed psychic sensitivities to gain information or healing for others. We serve best by accessing our strongest intuitive gifts, each of which is based in a different chakra, and obtaining information or guidance for the other person through it. And some people have multiple gifts, so they will access multiple chakras.
The first chakra, for instance, is a highly physical center. Some psychic works through this chakra, performing pyschometry, psychic surgery, or healing people through movement. The second chakra is emotional. Those gifted in this arena are feeling empaths. They might become therapists or do something else to help others process their emotions. The third chakra is information-based, as in, lots and lots of data. The related gift is often called clairsentience, or clear knowing. These psychics simply “know” information about another.
The healing gift is located in the fourth chakra and often results in someone becoming a hands-on healer. Clairaudience or channeling, the fifth chakra; clairvoyance, the sixth. Certain individual put a number of these gifts together.
A medical intuitive, for instance, might combine the sense of the physical (first chakra) with vision (sixth chakra) to get pictures that show what is wrong with the body. He or she might also throw in the ability to hear guidance (fifth chakra) with a sense of what nature can provide for healing (tenth chakra, under the feet), to offer solutions.
At some level, we are all unique, playing our own chakra songs. I think figuring out who we are and what we do through the chakra system provides understanding and structure about these matters of the spirit, however, and helps us discharge fears we might have.
Carol and Stacy: What are you working on next?
Cyndi: My newest book, that I co-authored with my colleague Psychotherapist Andrew Wald, entitled Togetherness: Creating and Deepening Sustainable Love ;is just out– so I am excitedly talking with people, clients and the media about it. ; I’ll soon be preparing a book about ;Chakra Cleansing for a fall 2013 release through Deeper Well Publishing. I also have two other books in the editing process right now.
The Subtle Body Manual; is a companion piece to my book, The Subtle Body Encyclopedia, both published by Sounds True. I’m excited about the Manual. It showcases various holistic techniques people can use on self or other to access the subtle bodies for healing. This book will come out in June of 2013.
I also have a book called; Beyond Soul Mates; coming out in February of 2013 through Llewellyn. It’s literally a way to stop reproducing our karmic patterns with others while moving to a higher level of dharma, or spiritual joy.
And I’m working on two other fun pieces I’ve always wanted to produce! A teen fiction series and a series of “mom” books. So that occupies my very little “extra” time this summer.
Carol and Stacy: Thanks so much for sharing with us and our audience. We’ve enjoyed reading your books, your guest blog posts and look forward to your answers.
Cyndi: Your team is GREAT! Thank you so much-what a gift you bring to the world! I am honored to support you in whatever way I can…Cyndi
